Promoting Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship is the ability to navigate our digital environment in a way that it is safe and responsible while engaging in using technologies. In short, it is responsibility and ethical use of technology in one's personal and professional context of life while using internet. It's one way of learning how to make decisions on online platforms and also exercise appropriate discretion. Digital citizenship encompasses of range in which people communicate and interact with each other online, how they share information and protect their own privacy. To be able to thrive in this increasingly digital world it is important to learn about digital world or citizenship. Digital citizenships are now fostered into child or an individual to make oneself empowered and responsible for participating in a digital world, contribute towards providing information and be productive on online platforms. Digital citizenship also informs us act online, ensures interaction and also addresses 21st century skills.

Role of a teacher in Digital Citizenship

Teachers play a crucial role in promoting digital citizenship among student be it in or out of the class. Following are some of the roles that teacher takes;
- Inform students about the roles and ethics associated with using digital technologies.
- show/ model a good online behavior using technologies while communicating with students
- integrate digital citizenship while teaching in the class.
- provide guidance to students on using digital tools responsibly and effectively.
- create a safe and supportive online platform to establish positive learning in a classroom.

Digital Rights and Responsibility that teacher must carry out in society

Rights
-
Access to accurate information
- ensure privacy
- enable freedom of expression
- provide platform for professional development and collaboration

Responsibility
- promote online safety
- maintain professional conduct online
- ensure equity and foster positive learning environment

My perspective on digital citizenship

In this upgrading world, I have better seen how digital platforms are creating impact on people's lives both positive and negative. While digital platforms provide us with an opportunity to share information and integrate discussion, it also has made a significant movement in leakage of personal information and violating privacy policy. At its core, it involves understanding one's rights and responsibilities in online platforms. This includes respecting the privacy and intellectual property of others, practicing online etiquette and adhering to legal and ethical guidelines governing digital content and interaction.

Middle Level of ICT Integration

Reflection of the session

Today we were oriented about PhET simulation. I learnt that PhET simulation can be one of the approach toward teaching and learning strategy in the classroom setting. In a real classroom setting PhET simulation can drive the setting and learning activities of the student. On the positive note, PhET simulation can ensure the safety and experience of every child. After I learned about the PhET simulation, I rather thought that it can be used to create classroom into more contextual learning base.

Now that I am aware of PhET simulation I can say that middle level of ICT integration can be blended with lesson planning. Simulations can be used to design the learning activities, create instructional simulation as well as design a follow up activity for record keeping.

Now that I'm aware of PhET simulation, I will integrate it while teaching the topic magnet to the lower classes.

Topic- Build a Fraction

 Teaching learning Material- Computer

Class- IV

Lesson Objective: By the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

1. demonstrate their understanding on how to build fraction using PhET simulation by creating a visual representation

2. identify at least three importance of fractions in real life situation in their own words accurately

3. apply problem solving skills to develop solutions for building fraction.

Introduction

To check the previous knowledge of my students, start the class by asking questions such as:

1/ What do you know about fraction?

2. Is fraction important in our live?

Then introduce students about how to use PhET simulation to build a fraction. Explain how the simulation works and it's purpose. To make the class more fun, let the student explore PhET simulation on their own for few minutes. After exploration, teach student about how to build a fraction using PhET simulation by showing them with few examples.

Lesson Development

In this phase of lesson, i will provide students with a set of fraction problems that they can solve using simulation. While students work on the problems i will move around to provide them assistance.

Extended Learning Activity

For those students who completes their task before the given time, I will further assign them with more fraction problems to solve individually.

After all the student are done with their task, i will ask students to share a thing that they found interesting or useful during the activity. Moreover, i will also be providing them with feedback whenever required.

Closure

To close the lesson, I will give a minute to my student to reflect on what they have learned during the class. After the reflection, a student or two will be given a opportunity to share their understanding from the lesson.  Before winding up the session, i will once again remind the of the importance of fraction in real life.
